Disappointing performance on the road by Holbrook

Two first-half goals from Stapenhill’s Steven Hart - the league’s leading goalscorer - effectively ended Holbrook Sports’ tame attempt to build on last week’s stirring success.

Holbrook’s abject display in the 3-0 defeat in the East Midlands Counties League was at odds with last week’s win for Sports .

They did not match the workrate of Stapenhill and the decision-making and pass selection was poor all round.

Changes were made at half-time and Holbrook showed some resistance and had the better chances in a scrappy second half.

With a few minutes left and the game beyond Holbrook, substitute Mathew Weightman added a third with his first touch after coming on.

After the game, Holbrook Sports’ assistant manager Vaughn Hallsworth said: “Our performance today was disappointing we struggled to get into the game and when we conceded our heads went down and our passing range and decision making failed us.”

He continued: “This was certainly a bad day at the office.

“We must work hard this week in training and put this result behind us, in readiness for next Saturday’s home game against Bardon Hill.”
