The first two cheques have been distributed to the chosen charities in the wake of this year’s Belper Nursing Cup.
The long-running competition features local football teams competing for the cup and the matches also help to raise money for deserving good causes.
This year’s three chosen charities are Ambergate Playgroup, Swanwick Pre-School and and the Holbrook Defibrillator Fund.
Around £1,200 was raised this year and £200 has been handed over to both Swanwick Pre-School and Ambergate Playgroup.
Teams who took part in this year’s Belper Nursing Cup were Holbrook Sports, Swanwick Pentrich Road, Belper Town, Duffield Old Boys, Holbrook St Michaels, Holbrook Sports Reserves and Bargate Rovers.
Holbrook Sports were the defending champions and they successfully retained their title in a match at Christchurch Meadow, the home of Belper Town FC, on a warm evening in front of a crowd of 150.
Sam Ridgard’s stunning 25-yard volley was the only goal of the game as Holbrook Sports beat Holbrook St Michaels to lift the Belper Nursing Cup for another season.
