Holbrook St Michaels welcomed back six players from last week’s defeat as they came back from Linby on Saturday with all three points.
In a scrappy first half, the Saints came in at half-time 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Jamie Stewart.
Holbrook started the second half slowly as Linby began to put pressure on the Saints’ defence but, against the run of play, Holbrook found themselves 2-0 when a good through ball from Sharp found Saunders, who rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home.
Linby didn’t give up and, to their credit, still tried to play football.
With ten minutes left, they had pulled the game back to level terms.
It looked like Holbrook would do well to hold on to a draw but, with three minutes left on the clock, Sharp found Saunders again, who wrapped up the game and all three points for the Saints, earning a 3-2 victory.
Meanwhile, Holbrook St Michaels Reserves did not enjoy such a successful afternon and went down 4-0 against Clipstone, in a replay of the Presidents Cup.
Despite having most of the chances in the first half, the Saints came in 2-0 down at half time and never recovered. They conceded two more in the second half and failed to deal effectively with the pace and determination of Clipstone, who deserved their win.
