Belper Sports u14s welcomed in-form Ashbourne Aztecs to Whitemoor Recreation Ground and beat them 3-1.
Sports knew this game was critical for maintaining their position in the league.
They started strongly with Gian Luca Gandola making some surging runs through the Ashbourne defence.
Belper were in total control when Ashbourne’s Sam Birks picked up the ball in the Belper half, beat the home defence and fired in a shot with his left foot to make it 1 – 0.
This shook Belper but Sports, with Mizon, Cain Ward and Gadsby in midfield, started to impose their game on the visitors.
Man of the Match Joel Cain worked well with Gadsby on the left and hit a cracking dipping shot from the edge of the area to make it 1 -1 .
The second half began well for Sports with the home side putting the visitors under a lot of pressure.
Belper’s pressure then told when Storr made a mazy run and slotted coolly past the keeper to make it 2 – 1.
Ashbourne then put the defence under enormous pressure with Brumby in particular marshalling the home defence. Cain then broke free and slotted a great ball through to Jacob Smith to score past the keeper to make it 3-1 to Sports and secure the win.
