Matlock & District Football League review

HURST Farm United were one of the big scorers of the day as they hit seven goals past Wirksworth Albion.

Martin Travis (2), Darryl Webster (2), Toby McClean, Dan Hall and Adam Flint fired the goals for the home team with Wirksworth hitting three in reply.

Fantastic performances from Martin Ward & Daniel Slater would normally mean one of these guys would have won the man of the match award but that went to Darrly Webster who stood head and shoulders above the rest with a fine display.

Elsewere, Derbyshire County FA Junior Cup action saw Codnor Miners edge out Melbourne Dynamo Reserves from the Midlands Regional Alliance second division.

After a tight game and extra time, both teams had to settle for penalties from which Codnor went through on a 4-1 success.

Codnor’s scorers were Tom Hawkins, Ben Paulson, Ben Craig and Matt Bryan.

The game of the day went to AFC South Wingfield who finally got the result their recent performances have deserved with an amazing 11-0 win over Cromford Reserves.

Racing into a three-goal lead in the first 15 minutes with two headers from Jay Miles and a fine individual goal from Jake Baranow. Wingfield added three more spectacular goals before half-time with Jay Miles completing a stunning hat-trick with a close range finish, by half-time Wingfield were 6-0 up with Jake Baranow and Dan Hatfield adding to the scoresheet.

There was no let up in the second half with Jay Miles adding to Cromford’s misery by scoring four more goals to take his personal tally to seven goals in one game, captain Chris Saunders completing the scoring in a awesome performance for Wingfield.

Division One action saw Chesterfield Town take the field against Hopflower and despite Town missing the best two chances of the first half it was Hopflower who were the better side and they took the lead on through Ryan Whittaker.

Town equalised early in the second half through Neil Hollingworth and were soon in the lead with a shot-cum-cross from substitute Andy Woolven, Town looked in total control and missed a hat-ful of chances but were made to pay for their misses when Daniel Longmore headed home a late equaliser for Hopflower.
