Nursing Cup is up and running

The Belper Nursing Cup 2014 is up and running with the charity football competition now in its 44th year.

Last year, £1,250 was handed over to three local good causes. This year’s chosen charities are the Holbrook Defibrillator Fund, plus Swanwick Playgroup and Ambergate Playgroup.

The eight teams in this year’s competition are: Belper United, Belper Town, Bargate Rovers, Duffield Old Boys, holders Holbrook Sports, Holbrook Sports Reserves, Holbrook St Michael’s and Swanwick Pentrich Road.

In the first quarter-final, Swanwick PR beat Holbrook Sports Reserves 3-0 while Holbrook Sports beat a Belper Town under 18s side 4-0. Bargate play Duffield Old Boys tonight (Wednesday) and Belper United play Holbrook St. Michael’s tomorrow (Thursday) from 6.30pm at Alton Manor.

The final is on Monday, May 5, at Belper Town’s Christchurch Meadow ground (7.30pm).

Admission is £2 adults, £1 children. There will be a prize draw, with around 20 prizes. The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Joe Booth, will present the trophies.
