Ripley produce a cup upset to stun Dynamo

THERE were no Premier Division fixtures last weekend with most of the teams involved in the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup, although many now wish they had not been as they lost out to teams from lower MRA Divisions.

High-flying Melbourne Dynamo were one such team and they went down 3-2 at Ripley Town, a team on the up in division one.

Liam Brown hit two goals, one from the penalty spot, and Kirk Fallows got the other goal for Ripley. Dave Brough and Adam Ross netted for Melbourne.

If Melbourne were surprised by their defeat, then willington were positively shell-shocked by their 5-0 home loss to Allestree.

Another team to fall were Chellaston, Woolley Moor United needing extra time to win 3-2 thanks to goals from Alan Gill, Adam Norris and Brett Turner. United also lost one player with a broken nose.

A local derby saw another shock result as Tibshelf beat Ashover 5-1 with two goals from Daz Riley and Dean Borrows and one from Steve Webster.

More expected results included Allenton United’s 8-1 win over Belper United Reserves although the visitors did score first before goals from Ben Blackburn (2), Danny O’Connell (2) and one each from Nathan Sandar, Adam Birch, Erroll Johnson and Michael Tristram carried Allenton to victory.

Mickleover RBL won 2-1 at Bargate Rovers with Rob Selby scoring both of the Mickleover goals and TomSmith netting the Bargate reply.

Newmount won 6-0 at Pastures with James Jennison netting a hat-trick.

Alex Hurry, Garth Black, Sam Griffiths, Troy Black and Josh Gregory were the Derby Royals scorers as they defeated Little Eaton 5-0.

Cromford won 3-2 at Glossop North End Reserves with a brace of goals from Alex Statham and one from Adrian Kershaw.

Wirksworth Town beat Peak Dale 3-2, Toby Howard, Carl Moore and Martin Dance scoring for Wirksworth and Matlock Sports won 2-0 at Youlgrave United, Robbie Eaton scoring both of the Sports goals.

MRA losses concerned Derby Singh Brothers who went down 2-0 to Newhall U8nited; Findern for whom Sam Stewart scored in a 2-1 home loss to Borrowash Victoria Reserves; Sandiacre Town, 3-1 at Graham Street Prims Reserves and Swanwick Pentrich Road, 2-0 at Holbrook Sports Reserves.

It was a bad day all round for Swanwick as their Reserves lost 3-0 in division one action at home to Mickleover RBL Reserves.

Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure Reserves beat Holbrook St Michaels Reserves 3-1 through two goals from Owen Brown and one from Robson Gray.

Rowsley ‘86 Reserves and Derbyshire Amateurs engaged in a 1-1 draw with Tim Baker on target for Rowsley.

Division Two action saw Ambergate win 4-1 at Bargate Rovers Reserves to stay in touch with the promotion chasing pack (report above).

Indi Gosal scored afirst half goal for Punjab United Reserves who trailed Mackworth St Francis 4-1 at the break before going down 9-1.

Jack Bodill scored for Chellaston Reserves as they drew 1-1 with Newton and there were no goals in the Hilton Harriers v Derby Royals Reserves game.

Little Eaton Reserves produced a shock 3-2 win over Allenton United Reserves with Mark Shooter scoring twice and Gav McReady once.

Unlike their first team, Melbourne Dynamo Reserves did not slip up in an away fixture as they won 4-0 at Roe Farm.

It was a good day for Wirksworth Town as their reserves won 5-2 at Pastures Reserves, Ed Bowler, Ollie Richards, Andy Holmes, Chris Henson and Jake Howard all scoring for Town.
