A much-needed 3-1 win against a struggling Barrow Town side relieved the pressure on Holbrook Sports in the East Midlands Counties League on Saturday.
Goals from Mark Szuta after 31 minutes and Joshua Wright after 42 minutes saw Holbrook leading 2-0 at the break.
The scoreline should have been more emphatic by then, but missed one- on-ones by Ashley Hayes, Josh Hooley and Joshua Wright early in the first half ensured Holbrook had to come out in the second half and work hard to secure a nervy win.
Substitute Jordan Smith made the much needed three points secure with a poacher’s finish from six yards out in the 85th minute.
Barrow earned a consolation goal in the 93rd minute from Daniel Agar.
After the game, manager Paul Romney said: “We discussed the importance of this game and the need for a vital three points with the players before kick off.
“They responded superbly, from the first whistle the result never looked in any doubt and the players deserve a lot of credit for getting the job done. Our confidence had taken a knock over the past few games and hopefully this win will give us a boost during the upcoming busy festive period.”
