Swanwick PR reserves defeat Holbrook St Michaels in close contest

With Swanwick PR reserve team coach Andy Worrall away with work, Lee Lawrence stepped up to the mark to lead the Swans second string to another three points with a 1-0 win at Holbrook St Michaels.

With games in hand the Swans are bidding to climb the table and this win takes them into the top three.

This local derby was a tight affair throughout, but the visitors were unlucky not to go ahead in the first half as the Holbrook woodwork came to the rescue. The crossbar was the first to deny Swanwick midfielder Chris Bradley after a glorious free kick.

The Holbrook upright was then called to save the day when a Liam Dolan effort was not quite accurate enough to break the deadlock.

Holbrook began to break on the Swans and if not for some fine saves from Craig Rodgers in goal, this match could have been very different.

Tot Pilgrim and Josh Dennis struck up a good partnership in the heart of the defence, denying the Saints any clear cut chances.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first, with Holbrook trying to counter-attack and Swanwick firing the ball towards the tall strikers Andy White and Mark Waghorn.

Numerous chances fell to the away side and again the Swans will be critised for not converting.

However, the game’s only goal was well worked and easy on the eye. A long ball from Rodgers fell to Waghorn, who pulled the ball back to the oncoming Andy White who has now scored the winning goal in the last two matches.
