With Belper United first team’s match falling foul of a waterlogged pitch, attention turned to the reserves, who were in action at Alton Manor.

And they certainly didn’t disappoint, recording a 3-0 win over Mickleover RBL Reserves in the Central Midland League CU Phosco Reserves Premier Division.

United were up against it early on, going down to ten men after just 15 minutes. Mickleover applied the pressure and only two good saves kept the scores level.

But eventually the game settled and United came back into the game. Just before half-time ,they took the lead when Dean Salt’s inswinging corner found the net, just under the bar at the far post.

In the second half, ten-man United dominated the game and seemed to have plenty of attacking options, despite the numerical disadvantage.

There were further goals from Harrison and Sparkes in what turned out to be a convincing win for United.
