Belper Sports under 15s recorded a fine 3-1 win at Melbourne United at the weekend.
Belper went to Melbourne knowing a victory would lift them into fourth in the U15s Division One in the Derby City Football League.
Melbourne started brightly, passing the ball well and pressing the Belper defence back. Belper’s centre backs of Jake Spencer and Jorge Knowles handled everything Melbourne threw at them.
Then a wicked cross from the left deflected just under the bar to make it 1–0 to Melbourne.
Belper’s keeper Zak Brown then made two good saves before a free flowing move by Belper resulting in a cross from Jacob Smith and a glorious header from Danny Scavetta into the top corner of the net to make it 1–1.
Belper’s midfield of Wibraham, Storr and Mizon were then starting to control the game in the second half and some excellent through balls from Wibraham to both Smith and Scavetta resulted in two brilliant saves from the Melbourne Keeper.
The pressure then paid off as Gandola raced up the wing, cut inside and scored with a fine shot to make it 2-1, a fully deserved goal.
The Melbourne keeper then made another three good saves from Belper’s forwards before Kieran Colley scored with ten minutes to go to make it 3–1 to Sports.
This was a solid display in difficult conditions.
