Ripley-based charity Sporting Futures, organisers of the annual Derby 10k, are delighted that the University of Derby is the new headline sponsor of the 2014 event.
The 2014 Sporting Futures Derby 10k, in association with the University of Derby, takes place on Sunday, April 6, at 9am from Pride Park Stadium in the city.
For the first time, the 10k route will be accessible for wheelchair athletes.
Entries are now open for the 10k event and the 3k Walk-Jog-Run, which also takes place on the same day at 10.30am. You can enter the events online at www.derby10k.co.uk
Claire Duffin, Derby 10k race director said: ”We are thrilled that the University of Derby is sponsoring our event in 2014. The university is very active in the community by supporting and encouraging community sports, which ties in to the ethos of what Sporting Futures is all about.
Claire added:”We are working closely with our colleagues at the University to make the 2014 event bigger and better than ever with an estimated 5000 participants, 1,000 more than last year”.
John Coyne, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Derby, said: “The University is delighted to be working with Sporting Futures on this exciting event.”
Sporting Futures was established in 1994. It engages with hard-to-reach and vulnerable young people through sport.
The charity has worked with thousands of young people across the county, developing their confidence and teamwork skills, giving them opportunities to participate in regular activity and helping them to engage in their local communities.
