Belper RFC 1sts lost out on Saturday in their local derby encounter at Amber Valley RFC, going down 17-10 in the Midlands Three East (North).
The game got under way with Belper giving a first team debut to flanker Chris Haines and his side couldn’t have made a better start as a penalty was notched up inside the first 30 seconds, kicked by Simon Jones.
But this proved something of a false dawn as Amber Valley went on to have the better of the first half, leading at the break after scoring a try and a penalty try.
After the break, the first points of the half didn’t come until the 65th minute when Amber Valley scored a try. There was a swift response from Belper who replied with a try of their own through Charlie Watson, converted by Jack Blount.
In the end, Amber Valley were able to claim the points. from the local derby.
Belper’s next match is on Saturday when they entertain Ashby in the league (3pm kick off).
