Cycling club are on the lookout for new members

BELPER Bicycle Club meet every Monday of the month apart from Bank Holidays when it’s the following Monday.

The meeting time is 7pm until around 9pm with the club meeting at the Strutt Club (Conservative Club), Campbell Street, Belper.

If anyone is interested in joining a cycling club in the local area then the club is always looking for new members, you and old and regardless of ability as some are purely social members.

The club started out life in the 1940’s as Belperion CC / RC, before re-emerging in the mid 1970’s as Belper BC, with sponsorship from Thorntons Toffee (who were originally based in Belper).

The club were known as Belper BC Thorntons Toffee during this period. This continued up until 1988 when Thorntons became a PLC and sponsorship ceased.

The club was established primarily to cater for the needs of local riders interested in competing in Time Trials and Road Racing. Over the years Belper BC has produced many riders who have competed successfully at regional, national and international level and the club continues to do so today.

The club supports both competitive and non-competitive cyclists.

Members currently compete in Road Racing, Time Trialling, Cyclo-cross and Mountain Bike cross-country events.

Non-competitive participation includes touring, cyclo sportifs, club road rides and club MTB rides.
