Marshall and Meyer shine on a good day for the Amateurs

Derbyshire County Cricket League Division 4N Morton Colliery (4pts) 138 all out (42.4 overs] (M Poiney 30, S Marshall 5-26, C Mayer 4-42) lost to Belper Amateurs (22pts) 141-4 (34.2 overs] (M Lawson 40, C Mayer 43*) by 6 wickets

BELPER Amateurs first XI made it four wins in a row after a six wicket success at mid-table Morton last Saturday.

On a greenish looking pitch, Steve Dymond won the toss and put the hosts in.

Morton made a good start with boundaries coming at regular intervals on a quick outfield.

However, the introduction of Steve Marshall put the brakes on the scoring and put pressure on the home batsmen.

Marshall soon began knocking over the top order and dismissed the first five batsmen to end with fine figures of 5 for 28.

Chris Mayer then joined in the attack and mopped up the tail with for 18 with help from two spectacular catches from Chris Durcan and Mark Lawson.

From 60 for 1, Morton's innings slipped away to 138 all out.

In reply, the Amateurs got off to a solid start thanks to Mark Lawson's 40.

And, despite a wobble at 63 for 4, Chris Meyer (43 not out) and Steve Dymond (24 not out) shared an unbroken fifth wicket stand of 75 to guide the Amateurs home with six wickets to spare.

In reply, Roy Peat, 43 not out, and Dave Longdon, 16 not out, saw the Amateurs complete victory in just 19.4 overs.
