Poppy blossoms with a bunch of personal bests

BELPER Marlin swimmer Poppy Fisher had a day to remember last Sunday as she defeated the competition to claim first place in all but one of her events at the Leander Sprints Meet at Beechdale Swim Centre.

This plucky little nine-year-old, swam through the competition to take the much-coveted overall ‘Top Girl Trophy’ at the event, quite an achievement for this young swimmer who only joined Marlin just under two years ago.

Having taken first place in the nine-years-old 100m individual medley 1.33.75, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 25m butterfly heats, Poppy went on to swim again in the finals and claimed even faster times resulting in a first place for her 50m breaststroke in 48.06; first for 25m butterfly in 19.16; first for 50m backstroke in 42.34 and a second place in 50m freestyle in 37.48.

This success earned Poppy four new personal best times and improved her 50m times for the forthcoming County entries to be held in March.

Poppy, a student at The Elms, has worked her way from a novice swimmer through to the Marlin Junior Development Squad and currently trains four times a week.

Head Coach, Mike Brett, said: “We are delighted for Poppy. She is a strong and valued swimmer across all her events, she works very hard and has a determination to succeed”.

Anyone who has been inspired by Poppy’s fantastic feats can join the Mini Marlins Learn To Swim Programme. Visit the Marlin website for contact details and information at www.belpermarlin.co.uk
