Sporting scene totally frozen off

THE weekend’s local sporting scene was totally obliterated by the freezing temperatures with every fixture throughout the area being postponed.

Frozen pitches put paid to all the local football and rugby and also wrecked Belper Hockey’s Club’s scheduled return from their winter break with their artificial surface also suffering from the severe frosts leading up to the weekend.

Midweek fixtures look set to fall too. On top of the snow falls which arrived later on Saturday, freezing temperatures forecast for Monday and Tuesday evening will only exacerbate the problems already experienced.
