Title hopes fading for Ambergate
Midlands Regional Alliance
Division Two
Ambergate FC 1
Hilton Harriers 1
Ambergate failed to make their domination pay against lowly Hilton, the draw all but ending any hopes of a title push.
Lowly Hilton proved very stubborn in a game that ‘gate will feel they should have won convincingly.
Things didn’t start well for Ambergate when Karl Hodgson in the home goal misjudged a inswinging corner, and it somehow ended up in the net to give the visitors the lead.
From then on it was almost constant Ambergate pressure although not many clear cut chances where created in the first half.
Debutant Casey Bestwick went closest as his header hit the bar.
The second half was much of the same as Ambergate edged closer to an equaliser, Tipton hitting the post from a free kick was the closest they came.
It looked as if it was going to be one of those days for Ambergate, but with minutes remaining Richard Tomlinson headed home after a goalmouth scramble for a deserved equaliser.
In added time there was even a chance for a winner, Casey Bestwick again being denied.
However, it wasn’t to be, and in the end it was a case of two precious points lost.
