Victorious Ambergate move back into top spot

Tom Aston of Ambergate FC

Tom Aston of Ambergate FC

A good strong performance from Ambergate saw them return to the top of Division Two of the Midlands Regional Alliance with a 3-1 win away at title challengers Pastures Reserves.

They looked confident from the start and had a couple of decent efforts blocked by the Pastures defence.

However, the good start seemed wasted after 20 minutes as Pastures took the lead.

This put Ambergate on the back foot for the next 15 minutes. Good tackles and blocks by Jody Waldron and Craig Tipton kept the Pastures’ attack at bay though.

As half time approached Ambergate started to get back into the game. More good football was played and this was rewarded with an equaliser, scored by Sam Hicking.

Ambergate started the second half looking like the only side likely to score but Pastures then saw a penalty saved by Jason Hooley.

Buoyed by this, Ambergate were ahead within two minutes.

A scramble in the box allowed the ball to be struck by Sam Hicking through the crowd and it was diverted into the net by Tom Aston.

The confidence grew even further now as Ambergate created more chances.

The game was finally sealed in the last ten minutes when Aston scored his second.

This capped off a really good all round performance. Nextis a trip to second-placed Newhall United Reserves (2pm kick off).
