Youngsters urged to sign up early

YOUNG Derbyshire golfers are being urged to sign up early and help save lives for the British Heart Foundation

A Derbyshire golf club is calling on young golfers in the area to take a swing for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) by entering this year’s Junior Golf Competition.

The Junior Golf Championship 2012, which will raise vital funds for the pioneering work of the nation’s heart charity, gets under way in this area with a preliminary round at Chevin Golf Club, Duffield, on Friday, March 23.

For the first time, teams are being urged to enter before Tuesday 31 January to take advantage of a special ‘early bird’ discount.

Across the North of England and East Midlands, teams of three junior golfers will compete to win a place in the Grand Final at Close House, Newcastle, one of the UK’s finest courses, on Monday 9 July.

There’s also a number of fantastic prizes on offer for high fundraising teams, including a round of golf at The Belfry.

Sue and Eric Moore, Junior Golf volunteer coordinators for the BHF in Derbyshire, added: “Every six minutes, someone in the UK dies of a heart attack. By taking part in Junior Golf 2012 you will be helping the British Heart Foundation to continue its life saving work.

“We’d urge all schools and golf clubs to enter teams of young golfers into this fantastic competition.

“Get your entry in before the end of January and help us to make 2012 the best year yet.”

For more information on the Junior Golf Championship, or to enter a team, contact Sue and Eric Moore on 01332 880510 or visit bhf.org.uk/juniorgolf for a full list of qualifying rounds.

Golfers must be 18 or under to enter.
