Kedleston Park Golf Club’s Alex Harlow has led his Derby College team mates to victory in the Derbyshire Schools Championships, played at Duffield’s Chevin Golf Club on Friday.
The Derby College team returned a total of 212 (Alex Harlow 74-5-69, Jordan Barker (Kedleston Park GC) 73-2-71 and Owen Jenkins (Kedleston Park GC) 77-5-72 to retain the team title by seven strokes from Trent College in extremely challenging conditions which included 30-40 miles an hour winds and heavy rain showers.
Alex Harlow played some solid golf in the difficult conditions and scrambled well around the greens to compile his score while Jordan Barker, one over par on the 15th tee, slipped to a best gross score of the day 73 with bogies at 15, 16 and 17.
Alex and Jordan have now been selected to represent the Derbyshire Schools Golf Association in the Midland Region qualifier for the English School Championship to be played at Arcott Hall Golf Club, Shropshire on May 30. They will be joined by Will Painter (Derby College and Kedleston Park GC) among others.
The Derby College team of Alex Harlow, Jordan Barker and Owen Jenkins have also qualified to represent Derbyshire in the English Schools Championship to be played at the National Golf Centre Woodhall Spa on July 9.
Alex, Jordan, Owen, Will and Will are all members of the Morley Hayes-based Performance Golf Academy Derby education and player training programme, run in partnership with Derby College.
Alex and Jordan will also qualify to play in the Derbyshire Schools match play championship later in the year at Matlock Golf Club.
