Belper Bicycle Club members Derrick Woodings, Mike Allen and Bill Cotton all recently took part in the Lincoln Ridge Road Race.
It proved to be a tough Newark Castle CC promoted race with the course being battered by heavy rain and strong winds which made conditions extremely difficult for all the riders.
In fact, a number of riders in each age group dropped out of the well organised and marshalled events
Despite a few early attacks by Mike he was unable to break free.
However, on his third attempt he was able to leave the pack, stringing out the field behind him and he eventually got clear.
Although he was caught and joined by another rider for a short time, he powered on and eventually broke free again, going on to finish ahead of everyone else by a massive winning seven minutes!
The success was Mike’s eighgh win this season.
Derrick finished first in his age category, a fifth win of the season for him.
After Allen’s great ride the previous week, he set a new North Midlands 65+ record in a midweek ten-mile time trial.
Mike absolutely flew around the course with a finishing time of 20:45, which gave him an average speed just under 29mph for the course.
This weekend, Mike and Derrick are back in action when they travel to take part in the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists 60+ road race championship near Henley-on-Thames.
