Ladies in Belper and the surrounding area are being invited to take a trip down memory lane with Back to Netball sessions at Belper Leisure Centre.
The sessions have been set up by Amber Valley Village Games in partnership with Belper Leisure Centre to offer local ladies a relaxed and informal route back into sport.
Village Games is a community-based organisation that helps to increase participation in physical activity, particularly amongst groups who may not feel there is currently the right sort of provision to meet their needs or circumstances.
Back to Netball is a popular campaign which was introduced by England Netball to entice women to dig out their trainers and simply have a go. Netball is a fantastic sport for ladies who would like to be fitter and healthier whilst meeting new friends or spending time with old ones.
As well as being a great aerobic workout, it is also ideal for toning the upper and lower body through jumping, catching and throwing the ball. The quick changes of direction and speed will also improve flexibility and agility.
Community sports activator Beth Turner said: “These new Back to Netball sessions are particularly aimed at those who are looking for a gentle return to sport. They will be informal and largely structured around how the participants want to play. Gone are the days of gym skirts. Just wear whatever you feel comfortable in.”
A spokesperson from The National Lottery which funded the national initiative said: “Back to Netball sessions have provided a big boost to the lives of participants. Many women have lost weight, made new friends and have increased the amount of exercise they undertake on a weekly basis.”
The first session will be on Saturday, January 25, from 11am-12noon at Belper Leisure Centre and will cost £2.50. For more information, get in touch with Beth on 07584904519 or email@example.com.
