Belper slugger Shane Sloman says he’s ready to “give everything” in next week’s title fight in Derby.
The 36 year-old fights for the vacant EBF Novice Midlands Area light-heavyweight title at Rollerworld a week on Saturday (July 25).
Sloman is waiting to hear who his opponent will be and, whoever it is, they are sure to be in for a tough night.
Sloman is an all-action scrapper who has exciting, up-and-down fights and said: “To win a belt would be massive, absolutely massive for me.
“Every fighter wants to win a belt and get recognised and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. I’m going to fight my heart out.
“I’m not going to take a backward step - but I’m not sure I know how to do that anyway !”
For Sloman, next week’s fight will be his third crack at Midlands honours.
And having twice challenged for the cruiserweight belt, he says he’s happy to be picking on someone his own size for the light-heavyweight strap.
Sloman, who thanked sponsor Mark Weaver of Q & A Site Structure in Kilburn, said: “I’m only 5ft 7ins and I’ve been fighting opponents who were 6ft 5ins ! They were too big for me. They were just picking me off.
“I decided I had to get down to light-heavyweight. I’ve been watching what I eat and doing more cardio.”
Sloman has been training with Vinny Glover and Jon Joyce - also in action next week - and knows winning the Midlands belt could lead to bigger fights.
But he said: “I’m not looking too far ahead. I’m just going to keep enjoy boxing and see where it takes me.”
