Several swimmers flew the Belper Marlins flag with distinction at the tenth Open Meet staged by Derbyshire’s central elite squad, Derventio Excel, at the Ponds Forge international pool in Sheffield.

Competitors from across the UK took part in the prestigious grade one gala, which was open to only the fastest swimmers, and Marlins supported the strong contingent from Derbyshire.

Joshua Horobin, one of the club’s best swimmers, fought his way into the final of the breaststroke, while Sam Frost took a bronze medal in the boys’ 50m backstroke. Caitlin Oram, Katie Dymond, Cameron Haynes, William Brookes and Casper Raynard were others to prove that Marlins is a club to be reckoned with at an event noted for its friendly atmosphere, which was a credit to all the teenagers involved.
