A competitive and enjoyable local derby rounded off a week of contrasting fortunes for the two Belper area teams in Division Three of the South Derbyshire Men’s Bowls League.

Hazelwood hosted Belper Meadows for a match that saw both sides record five winners. But Meadows sneaked the aggregate score by 174 shots to 171 and, with it, four additional points. The Meadows winners were Phil Shaw, Mick Nelson, Ray Marples, Alan Ward and Graham Sheldon, with Chris Brierton, Richard de Saeger, Ken Kirk, David Pitt and Andy Waumsley replying for the home team.

Earlier Hazelwood had also lost 10-2 on a difficult away trip to Stretton A, but Meadows romped home 10-2 (202 shots to 132) at home to Etwall A. Shaw (21-4) and Sheldon (21-5) led the way with convincing victories.
