Bronze for Bill as he tackles tough 95-mile course at Devon event

There has been plenty of action for Belper Bicycle Club members this last weekend, with cyclists involved in races all over the country.

Derrick Woodings rode the Minty’s Memorial Road Race on Sunday, an event hosted by Rutland CC on a course around Serlby Park in Harworth totalling 38 miles (seven laps of 5.7 miles).

Derrick felt on form and was riding better than of late. As a result, he was able to cross gaps more easily.

The riders were blessed with blue skies and sunshine so maybe this was one of the contributory factors.

Derrick got closed down at the finish however and was caught on the line by the bunch while chasing a group of four riders who had escaped earlier on lap three.

Despite this, though, he still managed a good tenth place overall which was well up the field and he came first in his G age category.

Mike Allen, meanwhile, was riding the Welsh CA 25-mile time trial (Welsh Championships) on the R25/3L course, starting in the village of Cefn Rhigos.

Mike recorded a time of 55:00, which is certainly not bad going considering the British Competition record for the course is 45:46.

Finally, Bill Cotton rode the Dartmoor Demon Sportive on Saturday. This 95-mile beast of a course started at Exeter racecourse and takes in stunning views across Haldon Forest and Dartmoor National Park. Bill recorded a time of 7:15:00 which earned him bronze
