Belper Hockey Club Men’s 1sts avoided the unwanted involvement in a relegation play-off thanks to a last-gasp victory over visitors Khalsa.
The Nailers earned a 2-1 win and in the process preserved their national league Conference North status after a battling campaign that went right down to the wire.
Belper knews a win would keep them up no matter what, and made the best possible start when Ben Walton opened the scoring for them.
Khalsa struck a potential hammer blow when they equalised with just six minutes remaining but Belper were able to dig deep and Drew Burkin kept his nerve admirably to slot home a last-gasp goal.
Belper finished in seventh position with five wins, two draws and 11 defeats from their league games.
