A VIP guest was welcomed by Belper Hammers Volleyball Club to one of their training sessions to present a cheque for £200.
Coun John Owen, who represents Belper on Derbyshire County Council, was delighted to pop down to see the Hammers, who are a relatively new sports club in the region.
The money is to help towards the club’s development of inclusive, sitting volleyball, a dynamic and exciting form of the sport that enables disabled people to play.
Coun Owen, a long-standing Labour councillor in the town, said: “It was a pleasure to meet with the Belper Hammers volleyball team, who offer excellent player-support for all ages and skill levels.
“If anyone is interested in the Hammers’ activities, and requires more details, please contact Will Hughes on 07791 071059.”
The Hammers run training sessions for players of all ages and abilities at Belper Leisure Centre on John O’Gaunts Way on Thursdays between 7 pm and 8 pm. Adults train between 8 pm and 9 pm, while there is also a junior training session every Friday between 7 pm and 8 pm.
