Kedleston Park Golf Club’s Will Painter has been selected to represent England Schools Golf Association to play Scotland in September at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club.
Derby College student Will, who is a member of the Performance Golf Academy player training programme, based at Morley Hayes, gained selection following performances in the English Schools Championships played over Enfield Golf Club, Middlesex.
Will posted scores of level par 71 and 74 = 145, which gained him an international cap to represent England against Scotland on Monday, September 8. This will be Will’s second appearance for England Schools as he played against Scotland in 2013. He will be looking to reverse the result as England were narrowly defeated.
Will’s selection outlines the strength of the player pathway available in Derbyshire Schools, he qualified to represent Derbyshire from their performances in the Derbyshire Schools Golf Championships at Duffield’s Chevin Golf Club in May.
He then represented Derbyshire in the Midlands Schools Championships at Arscott Hall Golf Club at the end of May, where he qualified to play in the English Schools Golf Championships at Enfield.
Performance Golf Academy programme manager Nigel Furniss commented: “We are absolutely delighted for Will to gain selection for the second year running. It is a great honour to be asked to represent your country.
“When we set up the Performance Golf Academy seven years ago, one of our goals was to help young players gain national selection. Following Greg Tickle’s selection for Wales Boys in 2012 and Will’s for England Schools last year, this shows we are delivering a great support programme for young players with aspirations.”
“It also demonstrates what a great player pathway we have in schools golf in Derbyshire for which John Barker must be congratulated for developing over recent years. We wish Will every success in Southport in September.”
