Belper Marlin Swimming Club achieved an excellent third place at the Jamie Rigby Gala held at Queens Leisure Centre in Derby.
The event is held in memory of a former Ilkeston swimmer, Jamie Rigby, who died aged just 18 in 2006. His family attended the gala.
The gala traditionally starts with all the swimmers making as much noise, splashing and clapping as possible and it’s good to see all the clubs united around the pool before the gala gets underway.
There are many relay events in this unique gala which evokes a great team spirit from all the clubs taking part with swimmers of all ages being entered.
Belper Marlin always attend and this year put in a sterling effort to take third place.
The atmosphere was sparked by some close swims and gallant efforts from all who took part . It was so good to see younger swimmers swimming with their older mentors.
First place went to Notts Leander with 276 points, in second place was City of Derby with 268 points, third place to Belper with 252 points, fourth place went to Long Eaton with 228 points, fifth place to Matlock with 138 points and sixth place to Ilkeston with 106 points.
Despite those much craved final positions and personal bests, everyone enjoyed the event - its a true ‘team’ gala with everyone gaining a deserved a pat on the back for their swimming contributions.
