Triumph by the minimum margin kept Belper Strutt Club only a whisker behind the leaders in the Darley Dale and District Snooker League.
Strutt faced an awkward match against Edgefold Club No.1 and trailed 2-1 at one stage, despite a 65-15 win for Mark Newby against Duncan Harwood on the second leg. Defeats for Steve Bullock and Paul Jarrett left them with work to do, but But Wayne Shooter equalised and the pairing of Bullock and Newby took the deciding doubles leg for a 3-2 success that leaves the Belper outfit just one point behind Bolehill Institute No.1.
Bolehill also celebrated a narrow 3-2 victory after a thrilling fightback from 2-0 down in a cracking match against Matlock Club that went down to the final black. Graeme Wood gave Matlock the lead before Keith Manlove top scored by defeating Ricki Slack 77-62. But the recovery was launched by Andrew Brough on the third leg and then a run of 29 by Ian Birks earned him the top weekly break accolade. The deciding doubles leg was edged by Slack and Birks 75-73 against Paul Bryan and Mick Macfall.
The player of the week award went to Keith Robertson, whose excellent 79-17 win helped Bolehill Institute No.2 beat Matlock Golf Club 4-1. After several near misses, Mark Sayer also got off the mark for the season, while Ian Peacock enjoyed an emphatic 58-16 triumph too. The only leg won by the visitors was the second when Richard Deakin marked his seasonal debut with a 75-72 success on the black.
The week’s remaining fixture resulted in a 3-2 win for Edgefold Club No.2 at Alfreton Palmer Morewood, with Rob Dicken recording his tenth victory in 11 games.
