HAVING been prevented from training on a pitch for the previous two weeks due to the freezing temperatures, the team had been forced to take advantage of the fitness facilities in the Fit Pit gym in Belper.
This kept the squad together at a time when many other clubs failed to get a pool of players together for a considerable period.
Since the team last played a competitive fixture in the National Conference North last November, the squad have still been representing the club. They took part in the Indoor National League qualifying tournament held at Lilleshall in December where they were unlucky to lose at the semi-final stage.
Post-Christmas, they have been able to welcome a new player in the form of Nicolaas Den Ouden from Dutch club HGC.
Nicolaas has signed for the remainder of the season as the Nailers look to strengthen their front line for the run-in.
A double header in London before the freezing weather hit saw the Nailers take on Bromley & Beckingham HC and Teddington in a triangular tournament.
This was good preparation against National League opposition and saw the young Belper side defeat Bromley & Beckingham and lose narrowly to Teddington.
The two games provided coach Mark Lamb with an opportunity to try several new formations and give the players valuable pitch time.
