Belper Marlin Swimming Club held their 29th Annual Open Meet at Queen’s Leisure Centre last Sunday.

The event was well supported with over 150 competitors competing.

As host club, Belper Marlin provided a large team of swimmers, many of whom came away with trophies and medals to show for their efforts. In the freestyle events, there were age group wins for William Brookes, Sam Frost, George Henshaw, Joshua Horobin, Elliott Stubbs, Daniel Breeze, George Chamberlain and Katy Dymond.

The backstroke events saw wins for Ryan Horobin, William Brookes, Gerorge Henshaw, Joshua Horobin and Joshua Corne. In the breaststroke, there were wins for Ryan Horobin, William Brookes Elliott Stubbs, Rachel Ainley and Phoebe Booth and in the butterfly, there were wins for Amy Hewitt, Elliott Stubbs and Casper Raynard. William Brookes won the 100 metres individual medley and the overall prize for the best junior male swimmer. He was only denied a clean sweep of the ten-year-old age group events by teammate Casper Raynard, who produced a fantastic swim in the 50 metre butterfly. Others achieving top three finishes include Lauren Neild, Amy Neild, Eleanor Hewitt, Luke Meakin, Rebecca Phelan, Christian Boon, Emily Taylor, Dominic Osin, Dani Hollingsworth, Tia Millington, Hannah Whittaker and Connor Osin.

The last few weeks of the year will be a busy time for Belper Marlin swimmers.

The county sprints championship takes place at Ponds Forge on November 18th and the Club championships are held on last weekend of November and the first weekend in December.
