Budding Andy Murrays and Laura Robsons have been taking part in fun activities at Duffield Lawn Tennis Club.
The Summer Holiday Club is now into its fourth week of five, where local youngsters can play tennis and enjoy multi-sport activities in a safe environment at the Town Street-based club.
The club already has a healthy tally over 200 juniors among its 500 members and head coach James Grindell says there’s never been a better time to get kids involved in tennis, a month on from Andy Murray’s Wimbledon triumph.
“After Wimbledon, there is a small window of publicity before it is taken over by The Ashes, football and things like that in the national media, but we have found these sessions in the school holidays, for children of all ages and abilities, work very well. We attract kids from the likes of Duffield, Belper, up towards Matlock, plus into Derby city itself. Within those sessions, we are running Spot A Star events to seek out new talent. Tennis is good for self-confidence, it teaches concentration, helps with your mental capacity, and you can really gain a sense of achievement.”
The sessions continue until August 23, between 9am-2pm on weekdays. See www.duffieldtennisclub.co.uk for more details
