A goal just four minutes from time earned Belper a creditable 1-1 draw at Beeston in the Women’s Conference North of the Investec Hockey League.

Beeston had led from the eighth minute when Rosy Stephens drove home a low shot from a narrow angle. And they continued to set the pace, enjoying most of the possession.

But in the 66th minute, Belper mounted a classic counter-attack with Lizzie Lamb intercepting a pass in midfield and driving on into the area before crossing for Sally Goodman to deflect into the net.

Belper often found it hard to compete with the pace and athleticism of the home players. But they stuck to their task admirably, with Lynn Combes and Louisa Boddy defending well at the heart of the backline.
