FIVE talented Marlin swimmers attended the City of Derby Level One Long Course Meet held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on Sat 14 and Sun 15 January 2012.
With the competition calendar having less L1 Open Meets in January, and with many of the top swimmers trying to gain Olympic Trial Times this resulted in a prestigious meet attended by the top Great Britain swimmers Liam Tancock, Fran Halsall, Ross Davenport, Jo Jackson, Lizzie Simmonds and Adam Brown to name a few.
This high standard competition gave younger swimmers an amazing experience to watch some of their swimming heroes in action giving them inspiration to strive for their own dreams and goals.
A spokesman for Marlin commented: “The standard was the absolute highest and a brilliant experience for our swimmers and spectators alike. To quote the kids, it was mega!”
And the Marlin five who attended were not fazed by the competition and put in some personal Olympic trend settings times of their own achieving personal best times and club records.
Elliott Stubbs had two swims and attacked them with his usual grit and determination to gain two great PB’s for his 50m Freestyla in 30.40 and 50m Back in 34.77.
Leah Hollingsworth (16) swam in all three Breast Stroke distances and set club records in all three with her 50m Breast in 36.67, 100m Breast in 1.19.94 and 200m Breast in 2.52.65.
Rob Ainley (15) swam in the 50m Breast in 36.59 gaining a Club Record, 50m Free in 28.12 gaining a Club Record, 50m Back in 32.64,100m Free 59.99 PB and 50m Fly in 30.51 club record.
Fran Marshall swam 100m Free in 1.00.02 and 50m Fly in 31.63. Ben Goodall swam 400m Freestyle in 4.10.74 giving the talented swimmer a national qualifying time, and a club record, both 16 years and open.
Having done their Club proud the Marlin swimmers are back down to earth and training hard for their next competition.
