If you added up all the competitive lengths the eight lanes of children have swam over the past two weeks at the County Championships you would be able swim the channel and probably further.
Round two began in earnest again last weekend with the usual strong team of Belper Marlin Swimming Club making an appearance.
After jingling out of the Arc Leisure Centre in Matlock last week with a massive haul of medals, it was their intention to do it all again.
In the end, there was an increase in personal bests from 121 to 228 and the medal haul was increased from 48 to a massive 83.
Children also came away with many rewards for fourth to sixth places.
The difference between these positions was often a tenth or even hundredth of a second so it makes you realise how competitive the event was.
A Belper Marlin Swimming Club spokesman said: “It has been a brilliant competition at the Arc with all of the officials and helpers volunteering their time for the benefit of these youngsters.
“The competition now moves to Derby where instead of individual races the Marlin team will be competing as a team in the relays.
“The close friendships and depth in the squad should stand us in good stead. Bring on the bling!”
