Matlock Cycling Club’s 16-mile hilly time trial from Lea took place early on Sunday morning in warm and sunny conditions.

The hilly circuit starts at the top of Lea, descending down towards Cromford before kicking up again through Holloway to Crich, with a second lap being particularly hard on the rider’s legs.

Peak Road Club’s Chris Myhill, holder of many course records in the area, took an expected win as his climbing prowess shone through, beating Matlock’s Chris Green by over a minute into second place.

Myhill finished the course in a time of 37 minutes and 50 seconds, with Green clocking 38:56.

Peter Colledge, winner of the previous club event, took third place and was the only other rider to go under 40 minutes – finishing in 39:14.

There was a return to the time-trialling scene by local long-distance legend Chris Hopkinson, who road his first race for a number of years, coming home in 8th place overall in 46:23.

Junior rider Cameron Orr arrived late, meaning he could only ride one lap, but it was recorded in an impressive time of 23:01.
