Two young players from Belper Hockey Club have made it through to national age group squads.
Two seasons ago, the club’s Junior Girls section launched an academy designed to help talented youngsters reach their full potential and get more of our juniors playing county, regional and national hockey.
As a result, a number of girls were selected to play for Derbyshire and also invited to attend the Midlands Junior Performance training camps.
The club is delighted that two of its most talented girls have made the most of the opportunity and, through the England Hockey Single System, have been selected to be a member of their National Age Group Squads.
Sarah Glenn, who has been with the club for nine years, and whose preferred position is midfield, has been selected to attend the National Under 15s girls training camp, while Charlotte Gale, a midfielder who is in her tenth year with the club, has been selected to attend the Under 17s National Age Group Sports Academy.
Belper Hockey Club’s under 18s girls team manager Paula Cahill said that both Sarah and Charlotte were “very skilful players who have put in a string of excellent performances, they are good trainers with bright futures and the club is very pleased for them.”
