New course for Belper Bicycle Club members to pit wits against

Ten Belper Bicycle Club riders took to the cyclo-cross course at Chetwynd Barracks in Chilwell on Saturday for Round 4 of the SRAM Notts and Derby League series.

In what was yet another sunny day for the riders, this was a new course on the calendar, promoted by Ashfield RC.

In the U12s race, there were four Belper riders competing among the 56 finishers. Christian Boon finished in 14th with Eddy Warbrick 15th. Liam Northridge came in 23rd and Jack Husselbee not far behind in 29th.

The Youth race saw Isabelle Boon finish 28th out of 50, followed by Taylor Marshall in 34th and Alice Warbrick in 44th.

In the Seniors event, Jonathan Marshall (riding for Zepnat) was the first Belper rider through in 21st place, followed by Shaun Warbrick in 68th and Nick Bates in 74th place.

There is no cyclo-cross racing next week but they return for Round Five on Saturday, October 6, at Allestree Park, starting at midday at an event hosted by South Pennine RC.

Meanwhile, Bill Cotton was in road action at the weekend in the hilly Enville Road Race in Bobbington, near Worcester. Bill finished fifth in this 44-mile EFGH event.

The next club night is on Monday, October 1, at the Strutt Club, Campbell Street, in Belper. New members are welcome and the start time is 7pm.

Alan Kemp won the race from Alan Ramsay and Tony Woodcock, with Bill coming in just down on these three and just behind sprinter Lance Ravenhill. This also meant Bill finished 2nd in his 65-69 age category, beating many younger notable riders. This is a very good result at this stage of the road season as it draws to a close. Bill and the other regular road riders are now at the track training for the forthcoming World Masters Track Championships starting 7th October.
