The Arena League is like the football league and FA Cup, but in a swimming pool.
The Belper Marlin Swimming Club team has been competing at venues across the Midlands with individual swims and relays in several galas.
The points that are gleaned from these gives them a position in the gala.
The top two in each gala can then go through into the next competition, which pushes the team up the league.
Last week, the Belper Marlin Swimming Club squad, ranging from children as young as nine years old to adults in the 50- plus age bracket, battled it out at the Beechdale Pool in Nottingham.
Everyone involved gave their all and put in a fantastic performance on behalf of their club.
The Mighty Marlins eventually finished in second position behind Bicester who had led the league from round ome.
The hard fought second place from Belper Marling Swimming Club means that they now qualify for the final and have a chance of promotion.
The final is to take place on Saturday, December 14 and it is hoped that, with all the land and pool training, under the watchful eye of the team coaches, the squads efforts will pay off.
A club spokesman said: “Well done to all the members of the team that have swum so far.
“The strength of the squad is apparent in every gala and young swimmers from Belper and surrounding area are a beacon of excellence for all to see.”
