A resounding 6-0 win for Belper Ladies, coupled with defeat for strugglers Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, confirmed that The Nailers are safe from relegation in the Investec Women’s Hockey League.

Belper slammed bottom-of-the-table Springfields thanks to two more goals from Sally Goodman and singles from Helena Skinner, Charlotte Hobbs, Kyla Madsen and Joanna Lane. It confirmed their Conference North status for another season because they cannot now be caught in the last two games of the season by next-to-bottom Whitley Bay, who lost 4-2 at University of Durham.

Goodman scored for the fourth consecutive match to give Belper a fourth-minute lead before two goals inside as many minutes from Skinner, who struck from a narrow angle, and Hobbs, who flicked high into the net. Goodman pounced again on 39, comfortably beating the goalie, before Madsen slid in for number five and Lane completed the rout.
