With two pools and an array of diving platforms shadowing the starting blocks, Sheffield’s Ponds Forge was the perfect setting for hosting The 2012 Derbyshire Swimming Competition.
It offered the chance for Belper Marlin Swimming Club members to get their teeth stuck into an Olympic-sized pool and experience the thrill of a huge venue.
Swimmers from all over the county competed for top honours in their age groups and with individual goals of beating their personal bests.
It was evident immediately that Belper Marlin loved the environment as PBs went tumbling and consequently fun was being had by all.
In total, the club claimed 58 top six places which are the best the club has ever achieved including eight golds, nine silver and 11 bronze.
Joshua Horobin and William Brookes were both double gold medallists, while Casper Raynard, Sam Frost, Ryan Horobin, Leah Hollingsworth also came away with first place and gold.
The younger girls, aged nine and under, took three of the top six places in some of their events and Katy Dymond, who was swimming in her first county sprints, came away with three silvers and a fifth place.
Needless to say the children were all stooping under the weight of their medals!
As always, parental support was great for the youngsters. Well done to all the swimmers who took part and made the coaches and supporters proud.
