Tasty treat for runners

This year’s Great Bakewell Pudding Race will be on Sunday, June 26 and runners from across the Belper News patch are being encouraged to get involved.

The race will start on Bakewell Recreation Ground at 11am and is one of the first events of Bakewell Carnival week.

There are two runs which will start at the same time. A Senior Fell Run of 10.4 km (approximately 6.25 m) follows paths up through the woods to Ballcross, to the top of Coombs Road, back down to the river and then through the showground and back into the Recreation Ground.

This is an excellent varied course that is within the capability of most reasonably fit runners.

The Junior/Fun run is 4.2km (approx 2.5 miles) and is open to all – parents can enjoy running with their children – and trying to stay ahead of them.

This is a fairly level course that everyone can enjoy, running along part of the Monsal Trail before coming back to the Recreation Ground.

Entry is on the day and the fee is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children and students. Subject to availability, each participant will get an individual Bakewell Pudding.

Please come along and take part if you can – if not, please come and support the runners.

Many local people join in each year, from serious fell runners to those who are just wanting an annual challenge.

The run is also on the calendar of runners from all over the country.

The money raised by the run is donated to local charities each year.

In previous year,s money has been given to Bakewell Methodist Junior School for an environmental project, Bakewell Town Council for local play facilities, St John Ambulance, Bakewell Boys and Girls Football teams, Bakewell International Day of Dance, and many others.

If you represent an organisation that requires funds, please contact John Scott. Some money is currently available to donate to worthy causes.
