As the race for the South Derbyshire Mens Division 3 title hots up Hazelwood Bowls Club entertained one of their closest rivals Washlands.

After a hard fought match, the home side emerged with six winners, taking the aggregate 194-175 and, vitally, an 8-4 points winning margin, which cemented their place at the top of the table.

Eric Mousley (21-10), John Yates (21-11) and Harvey Brocklehurst (21-14) all had good victories, but importantly both Andy Waumsley and Chris Rochester found good bowling marks directly in front of the pavilion to turn deficits into late victories.

Now, Hazelwood face three difficult matches to secure the championship, at home to Denby, and visits to Kings Newton and Etwall.
