The road season is now well and truly underway and a good indication of this is when Belper Bicycle Club’s seasoned veterans’ racing calendars start to become active.

Sunday saw Derrick Woodings and newly elected club chairman Bill Cotton in action in the Baines Racing NVRT road race in Towcester, Northamptonshire, in what was an undulating 36-mile course in total.

Bill was racing in his veteran F category (for riders aged 65-69) and Derrick in his G category (for riders aged 70 -74).

Both riders went on to win their age categories on what was a very wet and cold Sunday, in a great start to the season for the club.

Mike Allen was on the start sheet for the North Midlands VTTA 18km time trial last Saturday, but unfortunately the event was cancelled due to roadworks.

The last club night that was held recently saw an influx of new members, which is very encouraging at this stage of the season.

New riders are always welcome, regardless of age or ability, as they can join as social members, if not fully fledged racing cyclists.

Anyone who is interested in joining Belper Bicycle Club should see the club website for further details at www.belperbc.co.uk
