Jean’s work goes on display at centre

Jean Mayo’s exhibition Colours of the Land is the latest to be seen in the Sir Richard Morris Lounge at Derby Cathedral Centre.

It is on display until the end of November. The centre is open Monday-Saturday from 9am-5pm (closed on Sundays).

Exhibitions officer Geoff Robson said: “One of my aims is to discover new artistic talent in the local area.

“One source has been the annual Derbyshire Open Competition Its one drawback is that entries have to be limited to Derbyshire subjects so seascapes are not possible. This was the case with Jean Mayo.

She entered her landscapes and one gained the Friends Trophy a short time ago. I saw her attractive pastels and invited her to show some of them here.”

Jean lives on the edge of the Peak District, and has worked in the textile industry. She began drawing and painting as a young child and said: “Art has been my abiding passion, setting out to capture mood and atmosphere in pastel over a wide range of subjects. Over the last few years my palette has become more colourful, opening up new and exciting possibilities. “
