DERBYSHIRE author Fiona Paul is writing, performing and producing her brand new show, Excuse Me, I’m Trying to Please You.

She moved to Buxton two years ago, and loves it. She first got involved with Buxton Fringe last year when she played Jackie, the lead role, in High Peak Writer’s production, ‘Last Laugh’. This role won her a nomination for best actress in the Buxton Fringe.

Fiona is a jobbing actress, which means that as well as performing for both stage and screen, she also teaches drama and dance on a freelance basis.

She has delivered workshops at several Buxton schools but often Fiona’s work is further a field. She has trodden the boards in Manchester, Nottingham Sheffield, Derby, London, and Edinburgh, and all over Europe.

Since January this year Fiona has been running a Dance Class in Buxton at St Thomas Moore’s School. Every Tuesday night more than 20 enthusiastic adults come and shake their thing. Fiona genuinely thinks they are all marvellous.

So marvellous in fact, that she has chosen to put them in her new show. This Buxton Dance troupe, now called, ‘RUMBLE’, will be performing the finale in Excuse Me, I’m Trying to Please You. They are all hoping it will be one be one of the high lights of this year’s Buxton Fringe.

The show is a combination of newly written character monologues, blended with unique interpretations of well-known songs, and topped off with a finale dance from Fiona’s dance troupe, Rumble. In the style of the late, great Joyce Grenfell, Fiona, who is the ultimate people pleaser, hosts this insightful, entertaining theatrical feast. It will be on July 8 and July 9 at the United Reformed Church, Hardwick Square, Buxton. Tickets are £7 (Child £5 Concessions £6). The Buxton Festival Fringe  Box Office is on 0845 127 2190.

The show will also be performed in Manchester on July 15.
