AWARD-winning Folk and Roots artists are set to perform as part of a new programme of live events at Nottingham music venue The Glee Club.
As part of Folk at the Glee Club, there’s a line-up of gigs featuring many talented musicians and artists for the new year at the landmark British Waterways Building, Canalside, Nottingham.
There’ll be three exclusive shows too, where artists have been invited to return to their classic debut albums for the first time, performing a one-off concert featuring material not played elsewhere. These artists will be Chris Wood, band Lau and Kris Drever.
Other up-and-coming gigs include Alasdair Roberts, plus special guest Duotone on Friday, January 28 and on Sunday, February 20, Jon Boden and The Remnant Kings (A Folk Song A Day Tour) will also take to the stage. Also, on March 5, Jackie Oates & Band will be at The Glee and then on March 25, Roddy Woomble (Idlewild) & Band, plus The Abramson Singers will be performing, followed by Dave Rotheray’s The Life of Birds with Bella Hardy and Jim Causley on March 26.
On March 27, The Glee Club presents The Unthanks. Support comes from the Trembling Bells.
As the first of the three exclusive shows at The Glee, folk singer and acoustic guitarist Kris Drever, with his own trio for the first time ever, will be performing his classic debut album ‘Black Water’ on Friday, April 29. Come and hear how it all began for the multi-award winning Scot. Doors 6.45pm-7.30pm. Advance tickets £14.
For another exclusive show, Chris Wood, considered by many as the most important songwriter to emerge from the English folk scene in two decades, will perform his classic debut ‘The Lark Decending’ The Glee on Friday, May 27, plus guests Duotone (Barney Morse-Brown of The Imagined Village). Doors 6.45pm-7.30pm. Advance tickets £14.
For the last of the three exclusive shows, Lau will take to the stage on Friday, June 24, to give a unique concert performance of their seminal debut album ‘Lightweights & Gentlemen’, which will not be available in any other venue. Lau are Kris Drever (guitar/vocals), Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle) and Martin Green (accordion). Doors for all three concerts are 6.45pm-7.30pm. Advance tickets £14.
